DIRECTIONS:  From Las Vegas, take I15 south 47 iles and take the Nipton Rd. Exit, going East. Drive 3 miles and turn right onto Ivanpah Rd. 3 miles later, turn onto Morningstar mine Rd. Drive about 15 miles to Cima and stay left onto the Kelso Cima Rd. Continue about 14 more miles to the Kelso Depot. Turn left onto Kelbaker Rd. Continue south 32 miles crossing under I40 and turn right on Historic Rt. 66. Drive 7.7 miles and go left into the Amboy Crater access road. Drive 1/2 mile to parking area & trailhead. The total miles one way is about 120.

The crater is 1500 ft. in diameter and is actually a collection of four coaxially-nested cones. This means there were at least 4 eruptions here.
