Description:   The central Sierra Nevada Mountains have several awesome passes that criss-cross the mountain peaks.   Each pass is unique, offering a wide variety of landscapes and vistas.   We will meet just north of the Grapevine, just south of Bakersfield, to start our exploration.   Throughout the coming days, we will travel Hwy 178, 395, 120, 108, 4, 88, 89 and 49 as we head north.

         We will divide into two driving groups – one, led by Marna, that will take their time and smell the trees.   The other group, led by Don Asperger, will enjoy the challenges of the mountain roads.   Both groups will stop for lots of pictures.

         Saturday will be a medium to long day, with an optional side trip to see the Ancient Bristlecone Pines.   Sunday will be a long day as we travel west, then east, then west again.   Monday will be a short day with the afternoon free to relax beside Lake Tahoe.   Tuesday will be of medium length as we west, then south to Old Folsom.   Wednesday, well, its time to head home.

         Everyone needs to contact the hotels directly to make your reservations.   Call as soon as possible because this will be a popular event and we only have 20 rooms held at each hotel.   Tell them you are with the Miata Club when you make your reservation.   All rates are before tax.

If you have never been to Yosemite, we recommend that you extend your trip another day or two.   We will be drive through Mariposa and Oakhurst on our way south on Wednesday.   Both of these cities are one hour from Yosemite Valley and are excellent places to stay when visiting Yosemite.

Directions to starting point:   From LA, head north on I-5 to Lavel Road.   Exit and turn right.   Look for Miatas at the TA Travel Center.

From Northern California, come south on I-5 or Hwy 99.   These freeways merge south of Bakersfield.   Exit at Lavel Road, turn left, go across the freeway, then look for the Miatas at the TA Travel Center.
