Exciting Schedule Ahead

Hi all.

We have some exciting outings coming up in a short time.  First there is the Aug 7th run to Pahrump and Sherries Ranch.  This should be interesting based upon some of the things I’ve read and heard.

We then have the Ely/Great Basin weekend trip.  I for one am really looking forward to this one.  We will be taking a historic train ride and a tour of the caverns.  Nighttime BBQs for dinner will add some social time as well.  It’s never too late to join in the fun.  We are going the weekend of Aug 14.

In September, the weekend of the 25th to be exact, Richard is leading a terrific run to L.A. where those fortunate enough to go will be able to see the fantastic Getty Museum and the absolutely wonderful Nethercutt car collection.  Throw in a day trip to Avalon on Catalina Island and you have the makings for a great weekend!

October 2nd finds us back in Pahrump for the Great MOOV Grape Stomp.  This will be my first one and I can’t wait!  We also are anticipating a run from Art Seifert for sometime in Oct.

And of course we can’t forget our Christmas party on Dec 4.  Make sure you give the board some feedback as to your preference for location, etc.

So as you can see, there is plenty of activity going on with the club, especially when you throw in the monthly meeting and movies night out.  Hope to see everyone on a regular basis.

Event Report

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to fill you in on the Valley of Fire run that we put on for the Mazda 6 group that came to our fair city the weekend of June 4-6.

I was surprised to find that 13 Mazda 6’s showed up from So. Cal. , No. Cal. , L.V., and even one from the east coast!  All the drivers/passengers were in their early 20’s and since no one from MOOV was under 40, this made for an interesting event.

This group of young people was very refreshing.  They have the enthusiasm that I’m sure our group had 15 years ago when Miatas were unusual and rare.  They also have a vast store of energy as witnessed in the photos (also on this web site).  Oh to be 21 again and capable of climbing White Domes in a 111 degree sun!!!

Everyone enjoyed the poker run and the valley and afterwards we all made our way to Sunset park for a BBQ and some socializing.  In spite of the weather it was a good day to be out and about and the gods smiled down on us as the park entrance fee of $6 was waived for the day (National Trail Day) and a short stop at the casino found Jan investing $1 and making $20!

To our new Mazda 6 friends I would like to extend our thanks for including us in your weekend and hope to have you back again soon.  Also my heartfelt thanks go to Bill and Kathy and John and Shirley for helping me staff the poker stops.

From the President

Its been common lately for members and non-members to contact me for recommendations such as paint shops, upholstery, etc.

While I don’t want to have the club put into a compromising position by specifically recommending a particular shop, I feel that there is nothing wrong with passing on the opinions of our members regarding the services that they have experienced.  This has been going on for time eternal (or at least with the first retail shop!) and is known as “word of mouth”.

So starting as of now, there will be a permanent column in the newsletter that will be an assemblage of these member recommendations.  We are starting with those that I recently received in response to a request from a non-member regarding paint shops.

Please feel free to email me with any shops from which you have received good service and would like to recommend to others.  We will add them to this column.
