MOOV MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING March 12, 2007

Jerry Bruce, President called the meeting to order at 7:30PM. Jerry announced that the annual MOOV picnic will be June 2 at Sun City. He also announced that there will be three prizes plus a special award instead of the previous single award for accumulated points. Since board members will be excluded from competition, they will compete separately for one additional award.

Mimi Blaine will publicize the point awards for different activities. For example recruiting a new member will have a 50 point award since it is one of the best contributions to the club. Organizing events will have the next highest point award. See Mimi's list for a complete rundown.

Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer – Club assets are now at $1379.00

Richard Blaine, Community Service – Members can volunteer their services to Friends of Nevada, a group that helps the Forest Service and BLM projects. Activities include marking mountain trails to picking up trash along scenic byways. It is a year round function.

MOOV BOARD MEETING March 5, 2007

The meeting was called to order by President Jerry Bruce at 6:30PM.

The annual MOOV Picnic date has been set for June 2 and Richard Blaine has made reservations at the Sun City site that was used last year as well. Mona will put the details on the MOOV web page with the details as to time and place.

Jerry also mentioned the fact that since Courtesy Mazda is helping the club by providing a meeting place for the board members in addition to the “perks” club members have received, it would be important for club members to reciprocate by considering car purchases and service at Courtesy. An easel displaying pictures from some of the club events is now on display in the Courtesy Mazda showroom. It is hoped that the display will promote our club as well as make some Miata sales for Courtesy.

Mimi Blaine has refined the “point system” that will be used to determine awards for club members by listing the number of points awarded for different club activities. After Mimi's work, many of the board members realized that it would be easier for various members of the board to earn points in some specific areas than it would for general members. Separate prizes for the top board member and the top club member could solve that problem. The realization that hard numbers might create a close contest for some members complicated the idea of having just a single first place award.

All of the board members suggested ways to modify point assignments or raised various questions about complicating factors such as how to award points to husband and wife teams. Jerry suggested making things simple for board members by having one prize for board members to be determined by a vote. After listening to many suggestions Jerry proposed an award system for non board members of 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd prizes with a possible special award for a contribution that doesn't fit in any “point” category.

Mimi Blaine has obtained Nevada state incorporation papers for the club but additional federal forms would still be needed to change the bank account information. For the time being, the bank account will remain the same and Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer will continue to administer the account as before.

Richard Blaine, Community Service – He is looking into an organization called “Get Outdoors Nevada” which does clean up and conservation work.

Judy Simpson, Clothing – Tamara has a sample of the larger MOOV emblem but Judy did not get a cost figure yet.

Jan Bruce, Vice President – The board members will continue to be responsible for organizing the picnic but any member may help.

Mona Sagui, Webmaster – Rallye pictures are now posted on the internet.

George Rose, Secretary, if the secretary is unable to take minutes at meetings, the Vice President or her alternate will be the substitute.

Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer – Club funds are $1149.00

Dick Myers, Events – Richard Blaine discussed the last rallye and how to make the next one a little more challenging. Dick discussed organizing a Jubilee tour and show at Ballys for some time in April (20 person minimum). The club can also volunteer their help for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, although to stay together as a group, we would need about twenty volunteers. The Grand Prix is a three day event and food is provided for the volunteers. Unfortunately, it falls on Easter weekend this year. Richard also discussed the western Grand Canyon observation bridge that is set to open in late March on the Haulapi Indian Reservation as a possible club event.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30PM

MOOV MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING  February 12, 2007

The meeting was called to order around 7 PM at the Blue Ox by President Jerry Bruce. First on the discussion list was additional information about the club's new Point Award System. Although the point system has not been finalized, just about any club activity will earn a member or potential member points. One of the major goals for awarding points is to encourage member participation in club activities and the recruitment of additional members. As mentioned at the January meeting, awards will be given out at the annual Christmas party and will be substantial for the winners.

Jerry also discussed expanding the relationship with Courtesy Mazda by including the dealership in club activities. Courtesy could be used as a starting point for club events on that side of the city and future events and a picture board displaying club activities can also be on display at the dealership. Individuals who wish to plan events should coordinate with Dick Myers and give as much advance notice as possible.

George Rose, Secretary described a download site for service manuals. The manuals were for Toyotas only but he will look into options for Mazda.

Shawn Bolin has a 97 Miata with a rattling sound which seems to be coming from the front of the engine. A mechanic told him the air conditioning compressor was bad ($1200)! Richard suggested it might be possible to just replace the compressor clutch.

MOOV MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING  January 8, 2007

The meeting was called to order around 7 PM at the Blue Ox by President Jerry Bruce. First on the discussion list was our continuing relationship with the Blue Ox and what type of relationship to have with Courtesy Mazda. It was decided to continue our current membership meetings at the Blue Ox and use Courtesy for special events such as tech demos, maintenance events, detailing days, and as a meeting place to start off or finish some of our driving events.  Some of the events at Courtesy may be open to non members and other Mazda vehicles as a promotion for our club as well as the dealership.

Jerry would like to present a photo display of club events to be displayed on an easel at Courtesy Mazda. He requested members to contribute photos of club activities and bring them to the next meeting. This should help with member recruitment and also allow a place to advertise upcoming events. Brochures with MOOV membership applications will also be on display.

Board member changes were announced. The board changes include Dick Myers replacing Johns Bujnovsky for Events. John will now take on the duty of librarian.  George Rose will replace Kathy Childs as Secretary.

Jerry and Dick want and need event suggestions from the membership. It is important to submit event plans to Dick or Jerry in his absence to coordinate with other people or groups involved.

Jerry summarized ideas put forth for membership drives. The club will be running more ads in the newspapers and a calendar of events has been displayed on Miata.net.

Jerry also announced plans for a “point award” system. Accumulation of points will depend upon participation in club meetings, events, recruitment, etc. Awards will be given out at the annual Christmas party and will be substantial for the winners. Mimi Blaine will be in charge of developing the details and record keeping.

MOOV BOARD MEETING     January 2, 2007

President Jerry Bruce called the meeting to order at Judy Simpson’s house at 7PM.

The following members were present:

Vice President - Jan Bruce
Events - Dick Myers and his wife Ginger
Secretary – George Rose
Services - Richard Blaine
Treasurer - Gerald Schlutter
Clothing - Judy Simpson
Webmaster - Mona Sagui
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Greeter - Areti Schlutter

President Jerry Bruce opened the meeting with a discussion about the club’s new relationship with Courtesy Mazda. Issues of where to hold monthly meetings (Courtesy vs Blue Ox) and additional events and membership aid from Courtesy were discussed. A decision was made to continue meetings at the Blue Ox since the club could lose a reserved time slot without a monthly commitment.

Dick Myers suggested scheduling additional sessions at Courtesy as well as a starting point for events on that side of the city.

Jerry started a discussion about the lack of attendance at MOOV events. Issues brought up by members included better turnouts by board members, increased membership, increased variety of activities and events that include other Mazda vehicles.

Mimi suggested a “point system” as an incentive for more club participation. Ideas about how to structure rewards based on points were discussed. Members elected, appointed or volunteering for club activities could receive points as well as attendance records.

The idea of reviving a newsletter as suggested by Alex Postpischil was brought up and the need for members to contribute to make it work.

Member recruitment methods using newspapers, dealerships, the Miata Forum and simply talking to other Miata drivers you encounter were suggested.

Dick Meyers handed out an extensive list of possible events for feedback.

Mona Sagui will be hosting the next board meeting on February 5.

Richard has some items for sale – brand new cockpit cover for M1 or M2,  gray dash cover, and collapsible cup holder.

The 50/50 raffle was held, and Kathy won $25. Congratulations!

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM, and a tech session followed. Gloria changed her own battery and headlight. You go, girl!

Thanks to Peoples Mazda for sharing their new 2007 Miata with the retractable hardtop!

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Childs, Secretary

MOOV BOARD MEETING      October 2, 2006

President Jerry Bruce called the meeting to order at his old home at 7 PM.

The following members were present:

President - Jerry Bruce
Vice President - Jan Bruce
Secretary - Kathy Childs
Services - Richard Blaine
Treasurer - Gerald Schlutter
Clothing – Judy Simpson
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Greeter - Areti Schlutter

Jerry invited prospective board members to attend tonight’s meeting, so George Rose joined us.

Jerry announced nominations for 2007 MOOV officers will be held at the October Business Meeting, and the election at the November Meeting.  We still need someone to run for Secretary as Kathy is stepping down. George said he was interested, and asked if he could use a recorder instead of taking notes. No problem.

Jerry led a discussion of the upcoming Christmas Party, which will be held Dec 2 at Oasis Hotel in Mesquite. Jerry said he only has 3 registrations so far and hopes to receive more at the business meeting.  It was decided that the club will pay the $5 fee  for the Go-Karts and Mini-Golf. The gift exchange was discussed. Jerry suggested Bailey’s. Mimi suggested no stealing from your spouse. It was agreed that the 3rd person gets to keep the item.

Gerald announced that we have about $1000 in the MOOV Treasury.

Judy said we are looking for a new club clothing vendor. Kathy suggested Bobroidery  and showed sample shirts and caps. It was decided the club would try this new vendor, and Judy would contact the owner, Tammi Bobrosky.

Richard reported that the Chef’s Gala went well except for the auction payments with credit cards. Richard is going to suggest the club handle the credit card payments next year. This year, club members served as greeters and helped with the silent auction. Volunteers especially liked the Kobe beef and full glasses of wine.  Richard announced that HELP of Southern Nevada is looking for Thanksgiving volunteers, and he will have a sign-up at the business meeting.

Richard announced that new Miatas, including a retractable hardtop from People’s Mazda,  will be on display at the October Business Meeting.  Richard has asked the Blue Ox to reserve extra parking spaces by the door.

Jerry adjourned the meeting at 8 PM.

Thanks to Jan & Jerry for the use of their home.  Thanks Jan for the yummy pork sandwiches, and the other ladies for the delicious accompaniments.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Childs, Secretary

MOOV MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING     September 11, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7 PM at the Blue Ox by President Jerry Bruce. Jerry welcomed members and guests.

Jerry presented Christmas party plans for Mesquite. Party will be at the Oasis on Sat. Dec 2 from 7-10 PM. Cost would be $90 per couple for room and party which includes a buffet dinner. There will also be a cash bar. Go-Karts and Mini-Golf will be available in the afternoon, and the club may cover the cost. A Friday night option may also be available, perhaps with dinner at the steakhouse at the Casa Blanca, if there is enough interest.  Make your plans now. The cutoff date for reservations is October 13.

Shirley reported MOOV currently has 35 memberships, and announced this month’s renewals and birthdays.

Judy delivered clothing items that members had ordered.

Richard announced that he still has 3 openings for volunteers for the Celebrity Chef’s Gala to benefit March of Dimes Sept. 30 at the Venetian.  HELP of Southern NV has contacted Richard to recruit volunteers for their Thanksgiving and Christmas projects.

The 50/50 raffle was held, and Jan won $20. Congratulations!

Jerry closed the meeting with a juicy tidbit – Mazda has a hydrogen fueled RX-8, that may be produced for not much more than the standard model.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 PM, and a tech session followed.  Gloria’s check-engine light has finally gone off. Judy’s car is ticking loudly. Richard said it sounds like a stuck lifter. First, change the oil. O ring may need to be replaced.  It was also suggested to check the fuel pump.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Childs, Secretary

MOOV BOARD MEETING      September 6, 2006

President Jerry Bruce called the meeting to order at Richard & Mimi’s home  at 7 PM.

The following members were present:

President - Jerry Bruce
Vice President - Jan Bruce
Secretary - Kathy Childs
Services - Richard Blaine
Activities – John Bujnovsky
Membership – Shirley Bujnovsky
Clothing – Judy Simpson
Website – Mona Sagui
Publicity - Mimi Blaine

Jerry opened the meeting with a discussion of possible locations for this year’s Christmas Party. Richard reported on a good in-town option, the Highliner Restaurant. The cost would be about $20, but he wants to get more info before presenting it to the club. Jerry and Jan were thinking Mesquite would be a good place, and Jan presented rates for the Casa Blanca ($125 couple/ $75 single) and the Oasis ( $90 couple/ $55 single.) John and Shirley have stayed at the Casa Blanca, and Jan & Jerry said they would check out the rooms at the Oasis. Go-karts and mini-golf might be available, and John will check the cost, and report back.

Jerry reported that he has received no feedback from anyone about running for office for 2007.  Do the current board members and committee chairs want to stay on?  Do Dick and Ginger want to be on the board next year? What about George? John Corso? John Carlisle? It was suggested to invite potential new board members to the next board meeting.  Jan & Jerry offered to have a pot luck supper at their home on Oct 2. Jerry will invite potential board members.

Richard reported on Community Events. The Chef’s Gala will be Sept. 30 at the Venetian. HELP of Southern NV is looking for volunteers for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Richard will call the Marines about Toys for Tots. Maybe we can get a little publicity and attract new members.  Richard also suggested attracting new members by inviting new Miata owners to a picnic. Of course, it would help if we had the backing of a dealer.

Mimi sent our ad starting with “Auto Club” to the View.  We always appear on the R-J website, but not always in the print edition due to space constraints. Perhaps starting with “A” will move us to the top of the list, and improve our chances of getting our meeting ad in the paper.
