MOOV MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING
March 12, 2007
Jerry Bruce, President called the meeting to order at 7:30PM. Jerry announced that the annual MOOV picnic will be June 2 at Sun City. He also announced that there will be three prizes plus a special award instead of the previous single award for accumulated points. Since board members will be excluded from competition, they will compete separately for one additional award.
Mimi Blaine will publicize the point awards for different activities. For example recruiting a new member will have a 50 point award since it is one of the best contributions to the club. Organizing events will have the next highest point award. See Mimi's list for a complete rundown.
Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer – Club assets are now at $1379.00
Richard Blaine, Community Service – Members can volunteer their services to Friends of Nevada, a group that helps the Forest Service and BLM projects. Activities include marking mountain trails to picking up trash along scenic byways. It is a year round function.
Judy Simpson, Clothing – Judy is to meet with Tamara tomorrow about the pricing for the club emblems. She also passed out a catalog of clothing for members to purchase from.
Mona Sagui, Webmaster – Pictures of the Valentine Rallye and membership minutes have been posted.
Shirley Bujnovsky, Membership – Membership Renewals: John Corso, Jim and Jo Ann Barfield. Birthdays this month: Roy Adkins and Cliff Conti.
Dick Myers, Events – Ten cars entered the Valentine Rallye. Elsie Gomez was first in points followed by Bill and Kathy Childs and then Mona Sagui. Last place went to someone with the initials J.B. but we won't mention names. Dick would like to see maybe three rallyes per year.

MOOV BOARD MEETING
March 5, 2007
The meeting was called to order by President Jerry Bruce at 6:30PM.
The annual MOOV Picnic date has been set for June 2 and Richard Blaine has made reservations at the Sun City site that was used last year as well. Mona will put the details on the MOOV web page with the details as to time and place.
Jerry also mentioned the fact that since Courtesy Mazda is helping the club by providing a meeting place for the board members in addition to the “perks” club members have received, it would be important for club members to reciprocate by considering car purchases and service at Courtesy. An easel displaying pictures from some of the club events is now on display in the Courtesy Mazda showroom. It is hoped that the display will promote our club as well as make some Miata sales for Courtesy.
Mimi Blaine has refined the “point system” that will be used to determine awards for club members by listing the number of points awarded for different club activities. After Mimi's work, many of the board members realized that it would be easier for various members of the board to earn points in some specific areas than it would for general members. Separate prizes for the top board member and the top club member could solve that problem. The realization that hard numbers might create a close contest for some members complicated the idea of having just a single first place award.
All of the board members suggested ways to modify point assignments or raised various questions about complicating factors such as how to award points to husband and wife teams. Jerry suggested making things simple for board members by having one prize for board members to be determined by a vote. After listening to many suggestions Jerry proposed an award system for non board members of 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd prizes with a possible special award for a contribution that doesn't fit in any “point” category.
Mimi Blaine has obtained Nevada state incorporation papers for the club but additional federal forms would still be needed to change the bank account information. For the time being, the bank account will remain the same and Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer will continue to administer the account as before.
Richard Blaine, Community Service – He is looking into an organization called “Get Outdoors Nevada” which does clean up and conservation work.
Judy Simpson, Clothing – Tamara has a sample of the larger MOOV emblem but Judy did not get a cost figure yet.
Jan Bruce, Vice President – The board members will continue to be responsible for organizing the picnic but any member may help.
Mona Sagui, Webmaster – Rallye pictures are now posted on the internet.
George Rose, Secretary, if the secretary is unable to take minutes at meetings, the Vice President or her alternate will be the substitute.
Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer – Club funds are $1149.00
Dick Myers, Events – Richard Blaine discussed the last rallye and how to make the next one a little more challenging. Dick discussed organizing a Jubilee tour and show at Ballys for some time in April (20 person minimum). The club can also volunteer their help for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, although to stay together as a group, we would need about twenty volunteers. The Grand Prix is a three day event and food is provided for the volunteers. Unfortunately, it falls on Easter weekend this year. Richard also discussed the western Grand Canyon observation bridge that is set to open in late March on the Haulapi Indian Reservation as a possible club event.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30PM

MOOV MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING February 12, 2007
The meeting was called to order around 7 PM at the Blue Ox by President Jerry Bruce. First on the discussion list was additional information about the club's new Point Award System. Although the point system has not been finalized, just about any club activity will earn a member or potential member points. One of the major goals for awarding points is to encourage member participation in club activities and the recruitment of additional members. As mentioned at the January meeting, awards will be given out at the annual Christmas party and will be substantial for the winners.
Jerry also discussed expanding the relationship with Courtesy Mazda by including the dealership in club activities. Courtesy could be used as a starting point for club events on that side of the city and future events and a picture board displaying club activities can also be on display at the dealership. Individuals who wish to plan events should coordinate with Dick Myers and give as much advance notice as possible.
Board Members with new business :
Gerald Schlutter, Treasurer: Club assets are $1059
Shirley Bujnovsky, Membership: The new membership of Shawn Bolin brings the membership total to thirty one. Renewals: Roy and Kathy Adkins, John Carlisle, Dick and Ginger Myers, and Gloria Bell. February birthdays: Areti Schlutter.
Judy Simpson, Club Clothing: Displayed clothing catalog.
New Business :
The club will plan on having the annual picnic at Sun City again. Richard Blaine will discuss with Dick Myers about a date in May.
Richard also displayed a board with photos of the Valentine Poker Rallye. Elsie Gomez and her driving partner were the over all winners. Richard is planning a second rallye that will be a bit more challenging.
The meeting was adjourned around 8PM .
Tech Session :
Jerry described a device from the CES show that will download the codes from your car's computer and tell you what they mean. You can register up to five cars on their web site.
George Rose, Secretary described a download site for service manuals. The manuals were for Toyotas only but he will look into options for Mazda.
Shawn Bolin has a 97 Miata with a rattling sound which seems to be coming from the front of the engine. A mechanic told him the air conditioning compressor was bad ($1200)! Richard suggested it might be possible to just replace the compressor clutch.

MOOV
MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING
January 8, 2007
The meeting was called to order
around 7 PM at the Blue Ox by President Jerry Bruce. First on the
discussion list was our continuing relationship with the Blue Ox and
what type of relationship to have with Courtesy Mazda. It was decided to
continue our current membership meetings at the Blue Ox and use Courtesy
for special events such as tech demos, maintenance events, detailing
days, and as a meeting place to start off or finish some of our driving
events. Some of the events at Courtesy may be open to non members and
other Mazda vehicles as a promotion for our club as well as the
dealership.
Jerry would
like to present a photo display of club events to be displayed on an
easel at Courtesy Mazda. He requested members to contribute photos of
club activities and bring them to the next meeting. This should help
with member recruitment and also allow a place to advertise upcoming
events. Brochures with MOOV membership applications will also be on
display.
Board member
changes were announced. The board changes include Dick Myers replacing
Johns Bujnovsky for Events. John will now take on the duty of
librarian. George Rose will replace Kathy Childs as Secretary.
Jerry and
Dick want and need event suggestions from the membership. It is
important to submit event plans to Dick or Jerry in his absence to
coordinate with other people or groups involved.
Jerry
summarized ideas put forth for membership drives. The club will be
running more ads in the newspapers and a calendar of events has been
displayed on Miata.net.
Jerry also
announced plans for a “point award” system. Accumulation of points will
depend upon participation in club meetings, events, recruitment, etc.
Awards will be given out at the annual Christmas party and will be
substantial for the winners. Mimi Blaine will be in charge of developing
the details and record keeping.
Board
members with new business included:
Gerald

be about two hours in length. Route instructions are not intended to get
people lost and an emergency envelope can be opened in case one gets
lost to display the finish at the Italian restaurant. There will be
prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Postpischil discussed the availability of show tickets for Jubilee and

Events - Dick Myers and his wife
Ginger
Secretary – George Rose
Services - Richard Blaine
Treasurer - Gerald Schlutter
Clothing - Judy Simpson
Webmaster - Mona Sagui
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Greeter - Areti Schlutter
President Jerry Bruce opened the meeting with a
discussion about the club’s new relationship with Courtesy Mazda. Issues
of where to hold monthly meetings (Courtesy vs Blue Ox) and additional
events and membership aid from Courtesy were discussed. A decision was
made to continue meetings at the Blue Ox since the club could lose a
reserved time slot without a monthly commitment.
Dick Myers suggested scheduling additional sessions
at Courtesy as well as a starting point for events on that side of the
city.
Jerry started a discussion about the lack of
attendance at MOOV events. Issues brought up by members included better
turnouts by board members, increased membership, increased variety of
activities and events that include other Mazda vehicles.
Mimi suggested a “point system” as an incentive for
more club participation. Ideas about how to structure rewards based on
points were discussed. Members elected, appointed or volunteering for
club activities could receive points as well as attendance records.
The idea of reviving a newsletter as suggested by
Alex Postpischil was brought up and the need for members to contribute
to make it work.
Member recruitment methods using newspapers,
dealerships, the Miata Forum and simply talking to other Miata drivers
you encounter were suggested.
Dick Meyers handed out an extensive list of
possible events for feedback.

MOOV
MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING
October 9, 2006
Members
arrived early to check out the new 2007 copper red Miata with the
retractable hardtop provided by Keith from Peoples Mazda.
The meeting
was called to order at 7 PM at the Blue Ox by President Jerry Bruce.
Jerry welcomed members and guests.
Jerry
reminded members that the cutoff date for Christmas Party reservations
is October 13. Remember to bring a $20 gift if you want to participate
in the gift exchange. There will also be door prizes and give-aways.
Most people seem to be arriving Saturday Dec. 2. Go-Karts and Mini-Golf
will be available before hotel check-in at 4PM.
Jerry
reminded members that elections for 2007 officers will be held at the
November Business Meeting. Contact Jerry if you are interested in an
elected or appointed position.
Jerry showed
off a handy device called the Garage Butler. It sets the interval for
how long your garage door stays up when you open it. For safety, it
beeps just before it closes. It has a photoelectric cell so also closes
the door when it gets dark. Cost is $100 installed.
In Gerald’s
absence, Jerry announced MOOV has $1145 in the Treasury.
Clothing
Chair Judy announced that MOOV has a new vendor, Bobroidery.
Publicity
Chair asked if anyone saw the ad in the paper for our meeting. Mimi said
she will try to have it run on Thursday.
Community
Services Chair Richard is still looking for volunteers for HELP of
Southern NV’s Thansgiving and Christmas programs. Most jobs are sorting
food and packing dinners for needy families. Richard is also contacting
the Marines about Toys for Tots.
Richard has
some items for sale – brand new cockpit cover for M1 or M2, gray dash
cover, and collapsible cup holder.
The 50/50
raffle was held, and Kathy won $25. Congratulations!
The meeting
was adjourned at 7:45 PM, and a tech session followed. Gloria changed
her own battery and headlight. You go, girl!
Thanks to
Peoples Mazda for sharing their new 2007 Miata with the retractable
hardtop!

MOOV
BOARD
MEETING
October 2, 2006
President Jerry Bruce called
the meeting to order at his old home at 7 PM.
The following members were
present:
President - Jerry Bruce
Vice
President - Jan Bruce
Secretary - Kathy Childs
Services - Richard Blaine
Treasurer - Gerald Schlutter
Clothing – Judy Simpson
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Greeter
- Areti Schlutter
Jerry invited prospective board
members to attend tonight’s meeting, so George Rose joined us.
Jerry announced nominations for
2007 MOOV officers will be held at the October Business Meeting, and the
election at the November Meeting. We still need someone to run for
Secretary as Kathy is stepping down. George said he was interested, and
asked if he could use a recorder instead of taking notes. No problem.
Jerry led a discussion of the
upcoming Christmas Party, which will be held Dec 2 at Oasis Hotel in
Mesquite. Jerry said he only has 3 registrations so far and hopes to
receive more at the business meeting. It was decided that the club will
pay the $5 fee for the Go-Karts and Mini-Golf. The gift exchange was
discussed. Jerry suggested Bailey’s. Mimi suggested no stealing from
your spouse. It was agreed that the 3rd person gets to keep
the item.
Gerald announced that we have
about $1000 in the MOOV Treasury.
Judy said we are looking for a
new club clothing vendor. Kathy suggested Bobroidery and showed sample
shirts and caps. It was decided the club would try this new vendor, and
Judy would contact the owner, Tammi Bobrosky.
Richard reported that the
Chef’s Gala went well except for the auction payments with credit cards.
Richard is going to suggest the club handle the credit card payments
next year. This year, club members served as greeters and helped with
the silent auction. Volunteers especially liked the Kobe beef and full
glasses of wine. Richard announced that HELP of Southern Nevada is
looking for Thanksgiving volunteers, and he will have a sign-up at the
business meeting.
Richard announced that new
Miatas, including a retractable hardtop from People’s Mazda, will be on
display at the October Business Meeting. Richard has asked the Blue Ox
to reserve extra parking spaces by the door.
Jerry adjourned the meeting at
8 PM.
Thanks to Jan & Jerry for the
use of their home. Thanks Jan for the yummy pork sandwiches, and the
other ladies for the delicious accompaniments.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Childs, Secretary

Go-Karts and Mini-Golf will be available in the afternoon, and the club
may cover the cost. A Friday night option may also be available, perhaps
with dinner at the steakhouse at the Casa Blanca, if there is enough
interest. Make your plans now. The cutoff date for reservations is
October 13.
Shirley
reported MOOV currently has 35 memberships, and announced this month’s
renewals and birthdays.
Judy
delivered clothing items that members had ordered.
Richard

Chef’s Gala to benefit March of Dimes Sept. 30 at the Venetian. HELP of

Thanksgiving and Christmas projects.

The 50/50

Jerry closed
the meeting with a juicy tidbit – Mazda has a hydrogen fueled RX-8, that
may be produced for not much more than the standard model.
The meeting
was adjourned at 7:25 PM, and a tech session followed. Gloria’s
check-engine light has finally gone off. Judy’s car is ticking loudly.
Richard said it sounds like a stuck lifter. First, change the oil. O
ring may need to be replaced. It was also suggested to check the fuel
pump.

MOOV
BOARD
MEETING
September 6, 2006
President Jerry Bruce called
the meeting to order at Richard & Mimi’s home at 7 PM.
The following members were
present:
President - Jerry Bruce
Vice
President - Jan Bruce
Secretary - Kathy Childs
Services - Richard Blaine
Activities – John Bujnovsky
Membership – Shirley Bujnovsky
Clothing – Judy Simpson
Website
– Mona Sagui
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Jerry opened the meeting with a
discussion of possible locations for this year’s Christmas Party.
Richard reported on a good in-town option, the Highliner Restaurant. The
cost would be about $20, but he wants to get more info before presenting
it to the club. Jerry and Jan were thinking Mesquite would be a good
place, and Jan presented rates for the Casa Blanca ($125 couple/ $75
single) and the Oasis ( $90 couple/ $55 single.) John and Shirley have
stayed at the Casa Blanca, and Jan & Jerry said they would check out the
rooms at the Oasis. Go-karts and mini-golf might be available, and John
will check the cost, and report back.
Jerry reported that he has
received no feedback from anyone about running for office for 2007. Do
the current board members and committee chairs want to stay on? Do Dick
and Ginger want to be on the board next year? What about George? John
Corso? John Carlisle? It was suggested to invite potential new board
members to the next board meeting. Jan & Jerry offered to have a pot
luck supper at their home on Oct 2. Jerry will invite potential board
members.
Richard reported on Community
Events. The Chef’s Gala will be Sept. 30 at the Venetian. HELP of
Southern NV is looking for volunteers for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Richard will call the Marines about Toys for Tots. Maybe we can get a
little publicity and attract new members. Richard also suggested
attracting new members by inviting new Miata owners to a picnic. Of
course, it would help if we had the backing of a dealer.
Mimi sent our ad starting with
“Auto Club” to the View. We always appear on the R-J website, but not
always in the print edition due to space constraints. Perhaps starting
with “A” will move us to the top of the list, and improve our chances of
getting our meeting ad in the paper.
John announced coming events:
 |
Sept. 30 - Chef’s Gala and
Pahrump Grape Stomp |
 |
Oct. 15 – Lake Mead Run |
 |
Nov. 5 – Mojave National
Preserve Run |
 |
Nov. 11 – Lake Mead Dinner
Cruise? |
Jerry has found someone who
makes window decals. They are about 3” x 5” oval, self-adhesive (stick
on the inside of the window,) and would cost $1 each for an order of
100. It was moved, seconded, and approved that Jerry would order 100,
and one would be given to each member, and the rest would be sold for $2
each.
The meeting was adjourned at
8:30 PM.
Thanks to Richard and Mimi for
hosting the meeting and for the delicious dinner.

MOOV
BOARD
MEETING
May 1, 2006
President Jerry Bruce called the
meeting to order at Richard & Mimi's Marriott Time Share at 6:45 PM.
The following members were present:
President - Jerry Bruce
Vice President - Jan Bruce
Secretary - Kathy Childs
Services - Richard Blaine
Treasurer - Gerald Schlutter
Clothing - Judy Simpson
Webmaster - Mona Sagui
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Greeter - Areti Schlutter
President Jerry Bruce opened the
meeting with a discussion of the upcoming MOOV Picnic which will be held
May 13 at 11AM at Sun City. Jerry has inventoried the items left over
from last year's picnic, and he and Gerald will purchase needed items at
Costco. The response to John's email asking members to RSVP with the
food items they would like to bring to the picnic has been poor. So
Jerry will email members and assign each member to bring a salad, side
dish, or dessert.
Jerry received board approval to
reimburse John $152 from the MOOV treasury to cover his losses at
Teddy's Bistro. A discussion followed on ways to prevent this from
happening again. Richard said we should insist upon separate checks; and
if the restaurant won't comply, we should choose another place. Jerry
suggested next time we all make our own arrangements and pay separately.
We decided NOT to return to Teddy's as they served and charged us for
appetizers and salads we did not order, and wouldn't give us separate
checks.
Jerry told the board about John Corso
and Barry Goldman's recent bypass surgeries, and Sherry's thyroid
cancer. Mimi suggested Kathy send them get well cards from the club.
Kathy will purchase cards and bring them to next week's meeting for
members to sign.
Kathy passed out minutes of the last
board meeting.
Judy passed around the clothing
catalog, and will purchase some MOOV items to display.
We have new members - Michelle and
Scott Caron, who have a 2006 red Miata.
Richard announced that HELP of
Southern Nevada is looking for volunteers for their golf tournament June
8. Richard also received a thank you letter from KLVX - TV to MOOV
members who answered phones during their recent membership and
fundraising drive. He gave it to Kathy to file.
Upcoming Events - 15 people have
signed up for the Wynn Ferrari Tour on May 6. There was even a new
Ferrari in the showroom the last time Richard stopped by. Our Tech Day
is scheduled for May 21 at Dick & Ginger Myers home. Richard told us we
are in for a treat. Their garages with lifts are perfect for our event;
and Ginger has offered to make lunch.
Gerald announced we have $1531.91 in
the MOOV treasury. He suggested purchasing portable air compressors,
digital tire gauges, and LED flashlights for picnic door prizes. The
board approved the expenditures. More discussion on the picnic followed.
Each member gets one chance for the door prizes. There will also be a
50/50 raffle.
Thanks to Richard and Mimi for
hosting the meting, and for the delicious dinner.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45PM.

President - Jerry Bruce
Vice President - Jan Bruce
Secretary - Kathy Childs
Services - Richard Blaine
Treasurer - Gerald Schlutter
Activities - John Bujnovsky
Membership - Shirley Bujnovsky
Publicity - Mimi Blaine
Greeter - Areti Schlutter
President Jerry Bruce opened the meeting with a
discussion of the upcoming MOOV Picnic which will be held May 13 at 11AM
at Sun City. Jerry said we still have some supplies left from last year.
He will inventory them, and go shopping with Gerald and John to purchase
needed items. We won't need charcoal as grills are gas. The club will
provide drinks, chips, and paper products. Members will provide their
own entrees. It was also decided to divide the membership so some would
bring a side dish, some would bring a salad, and some would bring a
dessert. Richard said there are bocce courts and a swimming pool
available for entertainment. Mimi suggested a game such as blindly
guessing the car parts. We will also have door prizes. Richard suggested
a stand up wine puller for $15.
Jerry gave us an update on tech day projects. He
knows someone whose '03 Shinsen needs a timing belt. Richard suggested
John Corso's car which needs the timing reset and a clutch slave
cylinder. Gerald offered his home for a timing belt tech session.
Richard says he thinks the replacement times given by the manufacturer
are very conservative as none of the belts he's replaced on schedule
were in danger of breaking.
Gerald reported that MOOV has $1462 in the
treasury.
Mimi reported that she contacted the R-J about our
ad not always appearing; and was told there's not always room, and
articles come first. It would be nice to have it in "Around the Town" on
Sunday, so people can plan the day before. Mimi said our ad was in the
View and the Summerlin News, and Jan added that it's always in the North
Valley News.
John reported on upcoming activities. He has 21
people signed up for Romy's Cafe/ Teddy's Bistro April 7 at 6:30PM.

restaurant will accept it. Ken Korotkin will get back to John about the
April 25 Mini Grand Prix. Richard gave an update about the Wynn Ferrari/Mazerati
tour to be held May 6 at 10AM. There will be no new Ferraris there, but
some cars may be in for service. Invite your friends. The cost is $10.
Gerald gave John an article about the Kelso Depot. The lunch place isn't
open yet, but you can bring your own food. John asked Richard if he was
going to the chili cook-off this year; to which Mimi replied that she
had enough outhouse photos. John sent members an email about his and
Shirley's upcoming trip to Touachin to see Grease August 5 and South
Pacific August 26; and invited members to join them. It was suggested
that we visit Sheri's Ranch again, perhaps in the fall.
Shirley received 1 new MOOV application; and 1 new
prospective member will be at the business meeting/social. We currently
have 37 memberships.
Jan received board approval to purchase new raffle
tickets. Kathy suggested the Oriental Trading Co, who sell the double
tickets for $3.50 a roll. Kathy will order the tickets.
Thanks to Gerald & Areti for hosting the meting,
and for the delicious pastitsio and baklava.
The next board meeting will be May 1 at Richard &

announced there is currently $946.81 in the club treasury.
Richard has
pickpocket presentation ready to go, but still needs a facility with a
big screen TV. Neighborhood & community centers were suggested as a
possibility. John said he will check the Timbers, and Richard will check
Sun City.
Richard
plans to approach Harold at Courtesy Mazda to ask for support, as a
joint venture with the other Mazda clubs in the area - Rotary Club,
Mazda 6.
Some board
members mentioned that Courtesy Mazda seems to have moved from its
Sahara location.
Richard
suggested officers sit together at the head table at the business
meetings. Jerry suggested we get a nameplate for the Vice President.
Board
members discussed the Moab trip scheduled for the weekend of May 13-15.
Some said they were leaving Thursday and spending the first night in St.
George. Maybe the trip should be extended to include the north side of
the grand canyon on the trip home. It should be great as 145 cars have
already signed up.
Judy said
she’ll have discontinued club items on sale at the business meeting.
John and
Shirley are going to Gold Point NV the weekend of April 23 to see if we
should have a run to the ghost town there. John suggested we might go
over Memorial Day weekend for the chili cook off, and maybe stay in
Tonopah and visit the museum too.
The next
Board Meeting will be at Judy’s home on May 2.
The meeting
was adjourned.
Thanks to
John & Shirley for the use of their home, and the delicious dinner!J

Jerry
introduced our guest speakers - Fellow Miata Drivers and Members of SCCA:
Art & Cindy, Mark & Suzanne, and Chris & Kelly.
Jerry
presented a pin to Cindy, former MOOV member, and designer of our logo.
Art gave the club a great introduction to Autocrossing, and suggested we
might like to hold a Miata event within their their April SCCA 17
event. Bill Childs will be our point of contact with SCCA.
Autocrossing
is driving a course marked off with pylons on a parking lot, for the
fastest time. Cars are divided into classes so you are only competing
against comparably equipped cars, and men and women run in separate
classes as well. This is not wheel to wheel racing. This is a solo
event, and safety is paramount. A typical event would go as follows:
registration, tech inspection, walk the course, drive the course in
heats, work the course when you’re not driving. You will usually get 4
or more runs. All you need is a driver’s license, a car, and a helmet.
Loaner helmets will be available. Cost is $40, and a half-off coupon is
available for first time drivers. So pump up your tires to about 40 psi,
and come on out! April 17 - Registration is 7-8:30 AM, First Car Off
9AM. You can just watch April 17, and drive May 8, if you like. Complete

Jerry gave each board member a copy of the telephone questionnaire and
membership roster with three names highlighted to call. Kathy suggested

Jerry suggested people match up interests on the website. John suggested
adding “non Miata interests” as #13 on the telephone survey. The Buddy
Plan was further discussed.
Charity
events were discussed. Judy talked to Larry Cohen about the car show,
but he’s not interested unless there are 100+ cars and they’ll make
money. Richard said he’ll try to work with Harold on that. Richard will

Jerry led a
discussion on Membership Retention since we are losing members - MOOV
is down to 43 memberships going into 2005. Suggestions for attracting
and retaining members included newspaper ads, website, flyers, guest
speakers at meetings, membership drive, and picnic. A Buddy Program and
Exit Interviews were suggested to help provide a more personal touch.
Buddy sign-up, beginning with the board members, will take place at the
Business Meetings, Jerry will do telephone matching of new members,
Shirley will conduct exit interviews, and Richard and Bill will
investigate guest speakers. Brainstorming about speakers provided many
possibilities - Nascar drivers, police/safety, insurance, tech issues,
entertainers, Mazda reps, and product reps such as Meguiars.
Lisa McCord
will resume Publicity/Newsletter Chair as Ken Korotkin has been out of
touch.
Jerry led a
discussion on raising additional revenue for MOOV because membership is
down. Suggestions included adding a MOOV surcharge to clothing & club
items sold, and holding a Car Show. Judy will compile a new clothing
list and chair the car show.
The Board
discussed the format for upcoming meetings, and it was decided that the
host would decide whether to serve desserts, dinner, or whatever.
Mona asked
new officers to send her info so she can update the website. She also
reported MOOV needs a new host for our website, and it will cost about
$10 per month. It was moved, seconded, and passed that we pay $10 per
month for our website.
Richard
thanked everyone for a successful Toy Run, and discussed expanding the
event next year. He said HELP of Southern NV only needs 8 people for
Mardi Gras, but he is also looking for other Community Service ideas. He
also announced that because of the growing interest in the MOAB event,
people should reserve hotel rooms now.
John has 28
reservations for Backstage With the Beauties on Jan. 22,, and is trying
to arrange lunch before the event.
Shirley
reported that we can no longer afford to give away the magnetic car
plaques to new members as the cost has become prohibitive. It was
suggested that we give pins or hats, and order more car plaques to be
sold at a profit to the club.
Thanks to
Jan and Jerry for hosting the meeting; and for providing a delicious
selection of soups, snacks, and desserts.
The next
Board Meeting will be Feb. 7 at Bill & Kathy Childs home.

group.
Discussion was then brought up about possible
incentives for running and event, more to be discussed on this matter.
Jerry also reminded us that when we run an event we could use
$30.00 of the clubs fund towards that event.
It is up to the person running the event to decide how to use
the $30.00. They must
however let Gerald (treasurer) know how they intend to use this
$30.00.
After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that a
“Membership” consisted of one (1) carload.
Therefore, when the club provides prizes, there will be only
one prize per membership, which would be one (1) card load. The only exception will be the monthly membership meetings at
the Blue Ox.
Jerry brought up the subject of having an
official ‘greeter’ at every meeting to meet new ones coming to the
meeting. It was agreed
that the “Membership Chair” should be responsible for this task.
However, they can appoint someone to cover for them in the
event they may not be able to be at the meeting.
More discussion was brought up about this
year’s Christmas Party. After
tallying up those who responded to John’s email, the party will be
in town this year. We are
still looking into places for it to be held.
More will be announced at the next membership meeting.
Meeting was adjourned.

Discussion:
Jerry brought up the subject that was discussed

their name on them when attending any club functions or events.
More will be discussed at the next member meeting 6/14/04.
Jerry purchased 2 each 2-tier holder for the new
brochures. Judy will take
these to the dealers and ask for them to be displayed at the cashiers
box. She will also check
to see if we can leave some by the Mazda brochures or possibly put one
in glove boxes of the new cars.
Jerry mentioned the picnic in July and Christmas
party, more information coming soon.
Judy emailed Tri Mountain regarding clothing
purchase. She will advise
the club when she hears back from them.
